History

From a trading company founded in the immediate post-war period working with timber to plastics: the history of the Sunino Group unfolds between these two poles.
A proudly family-owned firm that knew how to grow from Castellamonte and expand in Europe and throughout the world, while maintaining firm roots in its way of doing business. For three generations, this has meant uniting product quality and organisational flexibility with a single purpose: standing with customers to reach their own objectives.

1950: The beginnings and first developments
The history of the Group has its origins in the post-World War II period, when Giacomo Sunino launched a wood-processing business for the construction sector right in Castellamonte. In the hands of his son Carlo, this business would be modernised, producing packaging items – pallets, cases, crates – aimed at the automotive and technology sectors (their main customers included, for example, the Olivetti Group, Montedison, and Fiat).

Industrial processing fascinated the entrepreneur who fully lived the ferment and productive and industrial vitality of the 1960s, entering the market of expanded polystyrene.

In 1968, Plastic Legno was founded, which increased the number of employees and production volume. The company is not scared of “shedding its skin” to grasp new opportunities that the market presents. This is, in part, thanks to the participation of the third generation, represented by Paolo, who is now Chairperson of the Board, and Laura, who is CEO, beginning in the 1980s.

Our entry into the thermoplastic moulding sector dates to the 80s and, a few years later, internationalisation and product diversification process got underway.

In 1992, OmniaPlast was founded in Bucharest, Romania, and, in 1996, Plastic Manufacturing in the Republic of Moldova. In 2010, our presence in Italy doubled with the purchase of Falomo Termoplastici. The group also grew beyond the European continent, thanks to the foundation of Dream Plast in India. The most recent additions are the Belgrad company, in Hungary, in 2017 and Omnia Technologies, in Hong Kong, in 2018.

The Group today

Today, the group is active in the food packaging sector and in the production of promotional items and sports gear, toys and technical items. It is strengthened by a global presence that is ensured by 10 plants throughout the world.
In 2018, turnover reached around 80 million Euro for a total of around 3,500 employees.

In 2019, the company joined ELITE, the prestigious international network of the London Stock Exchange Group and the Italian Stock Exchange, which was founded to support companies in their growth and assist them in accessing international financial markets. This was an important step in constructing a future increasingly distinguished by development and internationalisation.
